Alternative solutions to a WAV

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV) are vehicles that have been adapted to allow access for a wheelchair user, enabling you to travel without needing to get out of your wheelchair. It can be a misconception though, that if you find yourself needing a vehicle to accommodate a wheelchair user, your only option is a WAV.

While Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles are great for some people, it’s not necessarily the best solution for everybody. There are several vehicle adaptations that can offer alternative solutions dependent on your individual requirements.

Seating solutions

Adaptations such as person hoists or swivel seats can safely and comfortably transfer you from wheelchair to car seat and can be fitted to a wide range of vehicles, enabling you to have more choice of different makes and models of cars rather than the limited selection of WAV’s.

Both of these adaptations offer a practical stowage solution and eliminates the physical strain often required when lifting the heavy parts of your mobility device.
